Ill-conceived To Say The Least

I wanted to give this a good review as the inner is very comfortable, fits extremely well, I could breathe through it easily and the price was good. But... In all of Shock doctors' wisdom, they used hard plastic at the front of the guard with a nice sharp edge ensuring whenever you catch a light jab (and I mean light), the plastic cuts through your inner top lip. Terrible, terrible design especially considering the thickness of the guard! I'm considering filing mine down but I suspect that would affect the integrity of it, but it'll have to do until I find another guard worthy of vale tudo training! Avoid if you get punched a lot.

Not That Good And Too Thick

The first time i used this i found that mouth guard was quite thick and breathing wasn't easy during sparring.

I got hit once on the face, straight punch, i have to say my position was a little low and the edge of this mouth guard just scratched my upper lip quite badly after this punch because of the thickness of the mouth guard.

Later behind the upper lip it was super blue red and the skin peeled off a little after few days... Maybe i was just unlucky this time but after this sparring i never put it again in my mouth.

I just made a custom mouth guard recently at the dentist it's really something

else you can breath nicely and even speak you don't need to bite on the mouth guard to let it stable, it fit your teeth perfectly.

Sorry doctor shock about the bad review but i'm certainly one on 100 to have experienced this...

I Think Its Great As I've Not Lost Any Teeth Yet :

I think its great as I've not lost any teeth yet :D Got mine 30% off aswell!. To mould the guard place it in just boiled water for 12 seconds. Then take it out and shake it lightly so theres no water in the guard to scold your gums! Place in mouth, around teeth and bite ( while doing this make sure you press your tounge on the roof of your mouth and suck the guard in towards your front teeth) When you think its done (generally when you dont feel like being sick anymore!) place it in cold water for 30 seconds.

The SD v3.0 G-Shield is a good functional piece of design. I have used in Tae Kwon Do training and having taken up Jujitsu recently will be tested even more. So far, it has faired well - avoiding any issues that can be caused by impact on the jaw area... softening the impact of violent blows to a much less painful level. there also seems less of the 'shock wave' effect getting transfered to my head. It's not all great thought - speaking clearly is a little difficult (taking it in and out can slow down the flow of doing a martial art) and there is a slight issue with the molding at the front of the guard - which can be a bit abrasive on the inside of the upper lip... however, a small sharp craft knife and some sandpaper can cure this quite easily. All in all - a good durable gum shield that would be a good addition to many full contact/semi contact sports practitioner's kit, which although not 100% perfect - is still a useful piece of kit for the price.Compared with a trip to the dentist's - it can be considered quite a bargain!

Hi, Bud. Boil the water without the mouth guard in, take the water off the heat and drop the guard in & leave it in there for about 30 seconds. I'd suggest, with this mouth guard, that when you clench your teeth you also push it into your front teeth to stop it protruding out & cutting into your top lip. Hope this helps!
