Dirty ,awfull Facilities
It was a very small pitch .when we booked large at £35 a night cold and disgusting showers and toilets . Travellers' on site had to walk through their pitch to get to toilet block have been here previously for 4years facilities have never been brilliant but bearable this time stayed for 10 night couldn't wait to leave and have a hot shower and feel clean the no refund policy explains a lot wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy such a shame every person we spoke to had a problem this holiday wasn't cheap . The only good thing was you could walk into Swanage but its not worth putting up with the above for that would rather drive in every day very sad used to be a nice site .

Very Bad
2 PLENTY PEOPLE AND 2 MACH TROUBLE WHEN PEOPLE GOING 2 SLIP SOME PEOPLE LYSINE MUSIC
i do not agree with this comment, middle of July, children just broke up from school, of course places are going to get busy.
If you do not to go to SLEEP without people LISTENING to music i suggest you go on a quieter time of the year.
I visited around the same time with my family and we loved every minute of it, the staff were friendly and very helpful and we WILL be returning again!

Friendly, Welcoming Site.
We often come to this great site as we enjoy it so much. Reading the last review, we have not encountered any of the negatives they unfortunately did. All the staff very helpful, if the launderette etc., is closed ,just ask and it will be opened ( apparently there has been a spate of vandalism so doors are locked to avoid this) The shop was open twice every day, even Sundays, and we were also there in January, the opening hours were on the door-- the lady very friendly, getting our daily paper for us specially. I think you had a bad encounter and should return, we visit frequently and can't say a bad thing about Herston.

Great Site- Rude Manager(ess)
We arrived at Herston after a 2 hour drive that we had booked through the Daily Mirror for myself, husband and our 2 year old son. On entering reception i was met by a lovely receptionist who was approachable, informative and friendly. She went through the formalities, I paid the service charge of £45 and questioned whether i had bed linen. As i had not received any emails from the Daily Mail i assumed linen would be provided. (Having looked at the website since- Customer can be fooled by the Yurts having bed throws on the futons that give the impression that they are in fact bed linen...)
She stated that i needed to bring my own and i had concerns that my two year old son would need to keep warm. She didn't seem phased and told me house keeping will bring some to the yurt.
House keeping arrived approx 10 minutes later and were also friendly. They advised me the manageress needed to see me so i promptly went down to reception.
She was on the telephone when i arrived complaining, and the receptionist whispered to me 'oh, she aint happy, you need to pay'.
The manager(ess) after an aggressive conversation hung the phone up and began to talk to me in a condescending and belligerent manner. She immediately told me i had to pay for my bed linen as Herston were not to blame for me not bringing my linen and The Daily Mirror should have informed me. She then decided to go into great detail how she earns nothing by having 'Daily Mirror people here' and she loses money in fact.(Which is strange because haven spoken to fellow 'daily mirror yurt people' they confirmed that the manager(ess) had said that the money is made up on what they lose by the Mirror ????
She forgets to realize the £45 service charge we paid for a bleak month in January where none of their amenities are open (laundrette, childrens indoor play area and shop all shut) or did i once see a member of staff cleaning toilets/showers...makes me wonder what that charge was actually for....
To sum this holiday up...Great location...Great atmosphere...Shame about the manager(ess)...My advice love...book that customer care course....

Visited This Charming Campsite In August 2010, Mad
Visited this charming campsite in August 2010, made very welcome by friendly staff, doing their best on a very busy weekend. Open fires allowed,we enjoyed sitting by ours under the stars each evening. Lovely clean hot showers/toilets free, as was the Disco much enjoyed by all!! Wonderful little old fashioned train 5 mins walk away to Swanage or Corfe. Tickets available from shop on site. Lovely lady helped us by suggesting various walks and activities in the area, let us charge our phone and looked after our perishables in her fridge and freezer for us, no charge-amazing these days! Going back next year.HERSTON CAMPSITE SWANAGE
