SIXT  - BEWARE - DO NOT USE

We realised the car was in a shoddy state half way into our journey when the warning light came on to tell us there was too much engine oil and it needed to be reduced, plus found out when it started raining that the drivers windscreen wiper rubber was half hanging off and didnt clear the screen so pretty dangerous and should not have been rented out in that state - we later noticed that this was listed on the damages when we picked the car up so they obviously dont fix anything even for safety of the next driver. Didnt really use the car much while we were there as we was worried it may blow up and no chance of getting much help over the Christmas holidays so kept driving it to a minumum. We returned the car to Salzburg airport before the agreed 12pm drop off time, put the key in the drop box and went up to the Sixt counter to tell them we have dropped it off and to mention the wiper and the oil warning light, the man gave us a slimy smile and said 'you will get your deposit back in a few days'. No apology for the renting us a non-safe car. 3 days later we get an email saying we have incurred an extra days rental as it was dropped off at 1.34pm and also an invoice for over 500 for a >3cm dent in the rear driver door with paint damage. The picture they sent with this was one of the dashboard where it stated it was 1.34pm (the time they checked over it - not when we dropped it off) and also a picture of a tiny black mark which they say is paint damage and would cost over £500 euros to repair, this so called dent is clearly not a dent and is a black mark roughly 0.5cm that would wipe off with a bit of soap and water and was not paint damage as the car was white so no way would Volkswagen use black primer under white paint. The previous damages also mentioned that there was a 3cm dent on the rear driver door but no sign of that one in the picture they sent and theres no way that they can say it was fixed as they didnt bother replacing a simple wiper rubber plus repairs would all be done after the car lease is up so where are all the (over 40) listed damages from that list because we never noticed any of them, the car looked brand new. The car was still dirty in their photo and there was no sign on the picture that they had even tried wiping the black mark off. Complete sham - I have seen thousands of reviews where people are being tricked in exactly the same way. Whatever you do DO NOT USE SIXT - EVER!! They need to be shut down and their staff need to learn some manners and be taught the difference between a dent and a bit of dirt. The emails from them are rude and arrogant, invoices are all in German. DO NOT USE!!!

Headcase

I totally agree, just got back from Cyprus and had an e-mail waiting, saying there were 2 scratches and a puncture. Absolute rubbish, the car was checked over and the guy then drove the car away as we left for the terminal building. Pictures show nothing to prove their claim and the e-mail has numerous discrepancies. As far as I'm concerned they should be avoided like the plague.

Worst Rental Service

We phoned and payed extra to allow for us to use the car from England to NI. On picking the car told tha cars are not insured out of the island even though it's all GB this we cannot take the car out of the island. Explained that we only need the car for tha reason this don't want it. Refused refund as prepaid refused to change the booking so we can use on another trip. This was meant to be family reunion after a bad COVID. They are bad, that will do anything to trick money out of you. Be careful of their small print. There in desk customer service is also super rude and unhelpful. Don't believe what they say on the phone and never ever pre book it's their way of taking Ur money.

Dreadful

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Don’t hire from them

Paid £1200 for an intermittent car at Orlando Usa for a family off 4 including 2 children and put this all in an email to them as had luggage including a pushchair

When we arrived they sent us to pick up the car and it was a mini

We told them it wasn’t acceptable and could not get the luggage in so had to make 2 trips

They couldn’t give a dam with no customer service at all

This was as we found out far to expensive as well as other friends only paid $600 with Alamo for a 7 seater

Date of experience: 11 October 2023

Rented A Car In Southampton. Brought It Back In Pe

Rented a car in Southampton. Brought it back in perfect condition. They claim there was damage to the driver side bonnet in an area that is impossible to have scratched and supposedly down to primer. 5-10cm!!!! They provided no proof of these damages to me after multiple requests. They have no live person to speak to about damages. I know for a fact I didn't damage the vehicle. They are now telling me they will be charging my card for £971.06 and there is nothing I can do about it to dispute it. Nobody I can talk to. They have not provided any proof of damages they are claiming. This is a completely tricking honest people. Stay away. You have been warned.

No Breakdown Assistance

Hired a Volkswagen for the weekend From Sixt at Catania Airport. The 24 hour emergency phone number given by them to call in the event of a breakdown. Did not work. It was switched off. Having tried several times we phoned our hotel and they tried for us but confirmed that the number was switched off. We were stuck on the motorway exit where there is neither footpath or hard shoulder. We were trapped in a very dangerous situation. Vehicles were coming at us at high speed round a bend. Only having tried several different ways to contact Sixt, we eventually got someone in Germany by selecting the "new booking" option, from their website. There was no breakdown or emergency option. After hanging up on us 3 times, They told us to contact the police. By offering to pay myself we were eventually able to get assistance from a local breakdown vehicle. It took nearly 4 hours for a rescue.

Ruining the day and traumatising us. Next day Sixt tried to deny there was an incident and that their 24 hour emergency number did work. It was by far the most expense but the other companies had run out of cars. And their emergency number only works during office hours. Hire your car with someone else

Do Not Use Sixt

1 star only because I can't choose 0.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Hire cost may look less than others, until you turn up to collect the car!. They will fleece your credit card. Book a car with them, turn up, they find grey areas to make you upgrade or add drivers . When you return the car, they find further existing damage and claim it against you, whilst old damage hasn't been fixed. You won't be able to stop them taking the claimed money as they have your credit card number and you signed a contract. We even tried blocking the payment direct with our credit card and they still took the money. Disgusting company and downright unlawful practices and damage claims. Don't use them. It will cost you in the long run

Worse Rental Company Ever

I rented a car from Sixt with my family from 9th June to 27th June. Second day in the car got two punctures - no spare tyre in the back, no tyre sealant, no jack, no safety equipment absolutely nothing. My wife, 2 year old and 4 year old were left on the side of the road for 5 hours whilst I had to find somebody with a pump nearby who could put enough pressure in the tyres to drive to local town to get the tyres mended - Sixt offered to replace the tyres at local Kwik Fit but offered no assistance whatosever in how I was supposed to get there without spare tyre or any equipment! Over the whole period the trip we covered about 1,000 miles - at the end of the journey Sixt charged me an additional GBP 5,000 for excess mileage covered claiming I had travelled 7,400 miles during my time with the car - the equivalent of driving from London to Edinburgh every day, for the whole 18 days!

Falsely Accused Of Damage

I rented a van from Sixt in North Wembley for 5 hours, as usual the vans are always damaged and the customer has to note any damages before the vehicle leaves the compound, which i did.

The van was returned and to my suprise i got an email from Sixt informing me that there was NEW damage that hadn't been documented by the damage department. Before you send out incriminated emails check your facts and go back to checking the vehicles with the customer before the vehicle leaves your premises. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICES FROM THE WEMBLEY BRANCH, NEVER RETURNS CALLS AND UNHELPFUL

Are Sixt just the broker or the actual car hire company? I hate brokers such as Argus or Rentalcars.

Calsiam

Sixt are the actual car hire company and just for your information, I had a pleasant and problem free experience with them.
