15 Plus More Years Custom Gone!

I have been using Travelrent/LC Rent for 15 years and have recommended them to dozens of people, but not any more Over this time I have rented from them 25 times,I don't even look at other companies. I recently rented from them and when I returned the car there was a mark on the rear bumper, which, had I noticed it I would have removed with T-Cut, that is how superficial it was. When I was told I would be charged 60 euros, I asked to speak to the manager, I never got a definitive answer, but I assured her that I would not use the company again if I was charged. I wasn't charged right away, but I was looking at my credit card statement and I have indeed been charged, over a month after I've returned from Portugal! I am appalled that they would take £52.10, converted from euros, and jeopardize thousands of pounds worth of future business, but I'm disgusted that they would be so underhand and sneaky as to not take the money immediately, but sneak it in over a month later, presumably in the hope that I wouldn't notice. Needless to say I will go elsewhere in the future

Travelrent -great Service And Value

We have used TR since about 2002 when we first visited the algarve. Since that time apart from 2 occasions due to price we used another company. We have personally used them more than 100 times. Our family use them and we recommend them to our rental guests. We believe they are upfront with charges. You don't pay for a transponder. You can choose if you want to use the tolls. You pay upfront €20 cash. If you do not use ANY tolls that is handed back on return. If you use one exit you do not get any of the €20 back. The other charge due to airport fees is €15 for 7+ days hire. Less hire (1-6 days) it's €10. Return car with same amount of fuel. We have had some very new cars and others older. The worst thing was the radio kept changing station, but we didn't know why. Not noticed anything seriously wrong. We book direct. The collection and drop back is outside the terminal. You head for P4 car park to collect - far left side carpark after exiting arrivals. There are a number of different hire companies all in the portacabin. TR are far right end at the entry doors. Once paperwork is done they have someone bring the car - parking about 6 meters behind portacabin. If you are not provided keys immediately make sure you wait on the terrace bit immediately in front of the desk of the portabpcabin. This is due to the parking policy that they only really have time to pass over the car. I'm guessing 10 minutes before they are charged. Shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes tops. If you feel there is damage not on the sheet just mention it back in the cabin. We find anything minor they may not put on it, but better safe than sorry. Never had a damage issue problem. Return to P1 which is opposite arrivals so opposite side of the P4 car park. Press verde button, take ticket and they are waiting closest to the barrier that you just drove passed, so you need to turn the car very sharpe left through the barrier.

Great Customer Service

I've used Travelrent on a few occasions now

I find the collection desk good and professional busy yes but always helpful ( their English is much better than myPortuguese)

On our recent return we left a lap top in the car.

When we realised and returned to the Agent the car had been taken to the garage - one phone call and a few minutes and I had the laptop bag - try that in a taxi!!!!!

Well done!!!

Left Elderly Customers Stranded

Have used many times before without any trouble, but in September '16 three elderly relatives were given a car in poor condition including a fault with the windscreen, little suspension left on a 2 year old model, and within an hours drive away from Faro they had a flat tyre which they were unable to change themselves due to a fault with the spare wheel. They couldn't get anyone to answer on any of the contact numbers for the company including the "emergency" numbers and were left stranded at the side of the road in the dark for several hours. They were finally helped by passing locals thankfully. When the company were reached the next day, the only option offered was to go all the way back to Faro for the "possibility" of swapping it. Never, ever again. Please don't risk using this company now.

Good Value, Dirty Cars

We travel to Faro regularly and usually rent from the 'big boys'. The trip in August 2016 we had booked with this company as their larger car was far cheaper than the competition. We had a lengthy queue at a kiosk in the car park in very hot weather, with young children, so it was not ideal but the guys were working as fast as they could to process the rentals. After giving a security deposit on the credit card machine, the firm then takes a carbon stencil copy of your credit card details and security number. This was VERY worrying for me; something I have never seen done and totally unnecessary when they have already secured 1,000 on the credit card machine. Then it is 50 for the car seat, airport tax, and toll road deposit in CASH. At this point, I was almost ready to walk away but carried on and the car was parked behind the kiosk; a tired, high mileage, battered car. I went back to the kiosk and asked the chap to inspect the vehicle with me and we wrote on the forms that it was battered and had damage all over it and he tried to reassure me it was normal and I have to say, at the end of the trip, we returned the car, got our cash deposit back, and they also handed back the carbon copy of my credit card details. Having videoed my entire encounter at the beginning and end of the trip and posted the videos online to mark the time and date, and having independent 3rd party insurance policies for car hire, I knew I was covered for any monkey business but, I'm pleased to say there wasn't any at all and it was value-for-money. In my opinion, it's rough and ready car hire but the car never let us down, the a/c was cold, and the price was good. I would recommend this company but they do need to check the wear on some of the tyres.

Used Them For Over 10 Years, Always Been Excellent

Always book thorough economy car hire then pick the travelrent option. Been going to Algarve 4/5 times a year for last 10 years and used them throughout, never had a single problem. Cars clean, modern, well equipped, just bring it back with the same amount of petrol as they gave it to you with and off you go, handover rarely takes more then 5 minutes. Pick up can be a bit slower if there are several flights arriving at once but that's the same for all operators and just luck of the draw. Just make sure you have the right docs - confirmation, passport, driving licence, credit card for deposit, €20 euros for the motorway toll and €15 for the airport charge (in cash, same with every operator) and your away.

Customer Beware!!! Rude/ Unhelpful & Dishonest!

My family and extended family have rented from Travel rent for a number of years. The reason we used to rent from them was cheap price and ease of pick up/ return as they are located in the airport car park area. The quality of the cars is ok. They are reasonably clean, windscreens always dirty( a problem if you arrive at night/ a disaster if it's raining!) sometimes the tyres have been quite worn etc.My 20 year old daughter and I arrived in early Nov , in lashing rain and the day after severe flooding. We collected our car a brand new Opel Corsa automatic and drove the 45 mins to our destination . The following morning on returning to the car park of our hotel and while going at approx 10mph into the car park the car suddenly stopped in the middle of the road. It came to an abrupt and forceful stop. I thought we must have hit the curb or something such was the force of the car halting. I tried to restart the car and failed . The electronics symbols on the dash kept flashing on indicating an electronically malfunction . Three male members of the hotel staff tried and failed to restart the car which they ended pushing into a car parking space . The hotel then phoned Travel Rent who in turn sent a service vehicle( so far so good...) the service technician arrived after 50/60 mins and surprise surprise the car started! I was not surprised as the car had been sitting there for nearly an hour! He then told the hotel concierge that I was a ''female ' driver and not used to automatics and prepared to leave. I insisted that he checked the car out fully as I have driven automatics for 25 years and pointed out that had the car come to an abrupt halt the previous night on the motorway and in the dark that both my daughter and I would have been killed , and others too. He reluctantly checked the car more thoroughly and found that water had interfered with the electronics. He concluded that the car was not safe to drive and left.

The hotel concierge phoned Travel Rent to relay this information and arrange for replacement car. Travel Rent insisted that I get a taxi to the airport and drive the replacement back to the hotel. The hotel pointed out that it is normal custom for the hire company to send a replacement ASAP , especially in circumstances where the car was faulty and indeed dangerous. Clearly having lost nearly the entire afternoon with business of my own to do , I had no desire to again drive back in the dark . The TR rep on the phone was rude to the hotel concierge and told him that I was a stupid women and that even if I was given a replacement car that I wouldn't be able to drive that either! I won't go into all the phone conversations that followed over the next week . Suffice to say that Travel Rent refused to send a replacement car , they said that their terms and conditions require me to get a taxi to the airport . They do not! I was put onto a man who fraudulently presented to be the company solicitor; I was told that because the car was new it was my fault. I was told that I hadn't been killed so stop moaning ... That people die every day.....the ' lady' screamed abuse down the phone at me , the hotel representatives etc. Travel rent insisted I taxi to the airport and I refused as I felt that it was up to them to replace the dangerous car and that I had already been enough! In the end I hired a car from a reputable firm which was much more expensive but safe!! I sent the Opel Corsa keys to a local solicitor and changed my credit card as The 'lady 'in Travel rent had threatened to take funds to replace the keys from my account . All in all it was a horrible and expensive experience. Travel Rent are ok if all goes smoothly. Beware should anything go wrong as they are rude bullying and threatening. A holiday should not be spent dealing with ignorance beyond belief. The reason I am posting this is my concern that the Opel Corsa was never repaired and was put back into the rental stock with an intermittent fault that might result in a fatality. The company at all times insisted that because the car was new it could not be faulty!!!.... For my part, I will never go near them again !

Going That Extra Mile Or Kilometre!

I would like to say I rarely write reviews but I have to say that the service I received from Travel Rent at car Park 4 at Faro Airport was fantastic, from start to finish they were helpful and honest, no hidden extras and all very well organised, they were so obliging when we needed to extend our hire as we got the wrong date for our flight home ! ( Our fault)... thanks again for your great service, we were recommended by our fiends to use you, and I will now recommend to all our other friends to do the same. Mr and Mrs R Higgins .Somerset.

They Were Go Now Complacent

They were go now complacent I have used Travel Rent for 13 years; I recommend at least 6 -7 families who use our villa over the year to also use them, not anymore.

I book three large cars for my family with car seats for my grandchildren, I had paid for 12 of us to spend time together celebrating my 65 birthday, on arrival the car we hired was available but they had no seats for my baby granddaughter (12 months old) the only seats they had had had milk spilt on it and the other had a fault. We were asked to wait and a new seat would be delivered, 45 minutes later (baby by this time was not happy) a seat arrives but it is as bad if not worse than the first. I offered to buy a new seat if they had one but they did not. We could not wait any longer and risked traveling with granddaughter in the back with her mum without the ordered seat.

My sons and their families arrive a week later to take up the cars that I have ordered for them only to find that they had one large car left, my youngest son had to take a smaller car and share the luggage between the two cars. Seats for the four grandchildren were booster seats and were accepted but not in a good condition. They also had to hang around for booster seats to be found, they were given a discount for taking a smaller car but this was not the point I had ordered cars 5 months in advance.

On leaving the carpark, because we had to wait for the seat our parking ticket had expired and we had to pay for a longer period.

Once I can accept mistakes happen, three times no.

There was no apology and in the end we will walk with our feet and go elsewhere, the saying goes one gets what one pays for I will pay the extra and have a trouble free experience like in the old days.

Q&A

Elizabethchad133

Does it matter if the name on the credit card for security deposit is not the same as the named driver? It is too late for the named driver to apply for a credit card and I am worried they will turn me away as I have already booked to rent a car from this company and only just realised.
