Anaxos Gardens Anaxos Lesvos Second Year Visi

ANAXOS GARDENS ANAXOS LESVOS

Second year visit. Sept08 for 1 week, August 09 for two weeks! Quieter this year! Would not consider staying anywhere else. staff are very friendly and run well maintained, clean appartments. Laid back, relaxed and a firm family atmosphere. Sometimes I wonder what people expect from their holiday? The rooms are cleaned regularly, towels changed... they have good facilities, hob, fridge, toaster, hairdryer, kettle...The gardens are set in peaceful well planted surroundings, clean pool out of passer by view, delightful 10 minute stroll to beach, passing good mini-marts on the way. Beach brollies and beds 5 euro Aug09 or free if you buy a drink. Will be back summer 2010!

We Stayed At Anaxos Gardens Between June 20th And

We stayed at Anaxos Gardens between June 20th and July 4th. The apartments are cleaned regularly and our room was spacious and comfortable. The pool is clean and there are plenty of sunbeds but I found them quite uncomfortable - although I'm not one for lying in the sun like others who seem to find the beds ok! The bar has a nice atmosphere and we were round the corner so couldnt hear any early morning revellers although the young lads on their bikes/mopeds use the lanes as a racetrack at night - which can be a disturbance if you are facing the lanes. Anaxos itself hasnt changed over the past 7 years (our last visit) and is very laid back, quiet and friendly. Lots of tavernas to choose from with good quality food at all. We'd recomend - Vasillis' grill, Ariston (on top road) and Erini (I think) which is down the same lane as Anaxos Hotel. There were 4 of us and we paid in total around 40 euros each time - for a slap up meal and drinks. The beach is close by and if you turn left over the bridge the shore is sandy and at Hippocampus bar the sunbeds are free - with some you have to buy at least a meal-although they say the beds are free! Petra is within walking distance, either along the shore or on the top road, takes about 45 mins walk. It is slightly bigger than Anaxos with more shops. Molyvos is a bit further away with great lanes to explore, a castle to see if you are energetic and a lovely harbour with fresh fish served. It's a bit more expensive than Anaxos but worth a visit or two. The buses are regular and cheap. All in all a very chilled out holiday and we would go back again.

We Stayed At The Anaxos Gardens From 4-11th Septem

We stayed at the Anaxos Gardens from 4-11th September 2008 and loved it! The apartments are a lady manager who speaks excellent English and are set in beautiful gardens looked after by her mother. I have stayed in a few apartments in other Greek islands, and the apartment itself was simple and clean, with very basic cooking equipment, but there was a microwave and toaster, which I have never had in a Greek self catering apartment before!

The pool itself is nice and clean. The only criticism I have is that the shallowest part is 1.2m deep, so the pool would be no good for small children. The pool bar does good snack food and is quite lively at night! Everyone is really friendly and the manager chats to everyone and includes all in the conversations, so she makes it easier for guests to meet each other.

There are also some of the friendliest cats ever at the apartments. Watch out for Ginger, with her 6 kittens, and our constant companion, a white & brown 5 month old tabby who took a shine to us and was outside our door every morning, and would wait for us to get back in the evening! If we could of taken him home with us, we would have!

Anaxos is a typical Greek resort, with a beach of course sand with plenty of sunbeds which are very cheap to hire. There are plenty of good restaurants and some bars. It is worth sticking about till the end of the day to watch the sun set into the sea. The best place is the 'Best View' snack bar on the hill at the east end of the beach, where you can see right over to Petra and Molyvos as well as over Anaxos.

A quick 'hello' to the man at the supermarket round the corner from the Anaxos Gardens, who always had a smile and a 'Kalimera' for us every day!

Both Petra and Molyvos are worth a visit, especially if you like buying jewelery! The only bad thing I can say about Anaxos is the youths on their motorbikes and mopeds using the lanes through the village as a rat-run. They are quite noisy at night. Anaxos would be perfect if the small lanes had a few speed bumps to stop them racing.

Both me and my boyfriend would thoroughly recommend Anaxos and the Anaxos gardens, and will come back again! Efharisto Lesvos!

Worst Holiday Of My Life. Our Studio At Anaxos Gar

Worst holiday of my life. Our studio at Anaxos Gardens was dirty and smelly. In the end we bought some spray cleaner and a cloth and cleaned up ourselves.

Holidaying at Anaxos Gardens has put me off ever going to Lesvos again.

Anaxos Gardens, Anaxos. What Can I Say?

Anaxos Gardens, Anaxos.

What can I say? Unable to find many reviews prior to our departure, we were unsure of whether our destination was just indescribable or a secret best kept. My family and I were pleased to discover that in this case it was the latter!

This little complex is a family run place that offers a friendly face at any time of day or night. Good food within the bar and entertainment most evenings for those who don't wish to venture too far. BBQ evenings and quiz nights are great fun as are the first 3 shots of Ouzo. After that you're on your own! The pool and surrounding gardens are very pretty and full of colour and ideal for relaxing while you tan! Rooms are very clean and adequately furnished with regular maid service and fresh linen/towels.

Anaxos itself is a small, quiet resort. English orientated but at the same time quite traditionally Greek. Ideal for 'getting away from it all'. There are no big bars or music clubs here but there are several restaurants scattered along the sea front that offer the most fabulous sunsets while you dine. Delicious Greek dishes are a plenty, no steak, egg and chips! (Not that I saw anyway)! 'Paradise' at the far end of the beach, run by brothers Babbis and George has to be tried. The service as well as the food is excellent. If you walk away from the front, you will find many more restaurants worthy of an evenings dining. I have already seen 'VASSILIS GRILL' mentioned and that is well worth a visit, run by a friendly young man who aims to please. The Country Sausage or Veal is incredibly tasty as are most dishes on the menu here. Also worthy of a mention is Kostas on the top main road. Try the Lamb or Chicken special for meat that melts in your mouth! A family run restaurant where you can watch the chefs preparing your meal while you nibble on fresh bread and tzatziki. Opposite is a bar where the men of the village gather most evenings for an Ouzo or two. Hear them telling their stories or singing the occasional song but watch out for the guy who saddles up his donkey at the end of the evening, looking slightly worse for wear and riding off into the dark of the night!

The beach is slightly coarse and dark but being a volcanic island, one can hardly expect golden beaches! We found the best area to be around to the edge of the beach close to the 'Seaside Restaurant'. Parasols and sun beds can be hired for as little as 5 euros per day. (4 sunbeds/2 parasols) ((In comparison with 4 euros per bed/parasol in Majorca last year, we found this incredibly CHEAP))!

Car hire is available from within the village and Lesvos is worthy of a couple of days car rental if you like to get out and about. We hired a jeep and went off the beaten track and along some of the dirt roads. Great fun for the teenagers who wouldn't normally want to ride with you and do the 'scenic stuff'! If you're looking for a great evening out, try the Sunset Donkey trail and BBQ, 4 miles sitting side saddle on a donkey with a mind of its own. Hilarious!

A little shout out to the 'Yorkshire Pensioners' & 'Hampshire Man' and his good lady wife. The kids are missing you!

Temperatures were incredibly high while we were there, (late August) but did cool slightly with the change of the month. Mosquito's were around but using two 'plug-ins' per room and plenty of repellent, we were not bothered by them.

Petra, Molyvos and Eftalou all within a short distance and worthy of a visit can be reached by cheap bus/taxi rides.

Final mention is for the Manos Rep this year, Alison. She was incredibly helpful and was on site at some point everyday. Her first aid also came in very handy at the airport but I think that I would have much preferred to DRINK the Ouzo!

Our thanks go to the warm, friendly people of Anaxos for making us feel so welcome in their little part of Greece.

We WILL return.

Anaxos Gardens Is A Quiet Resort But Plenty To Kee

Anaxos Gardens is a quiet resort but plenty to keep you and your family busy. There are plenty of Tavernas to try, we found the further from the beach front the better (maybe it's just personal choice).

The apartments were just fine with all equipment we needed to make small meals (not your Sunday Roast). I had taken extra cleaning wipes for the kitchen and bathroom areas but found I didn't need to use them. The appartment was cleaned and the towels changed. The bed linen was only changed on a weekly basis. All in all it was above our expectations.

The pool did get noisey during the day but with 10 kids aged 4 to 12 years old (2 of which were ours) what can you expect. If you were a parent on a lilo you were fair game to be bombed or tipped off. All the kids were however very polite and if asked to keep it down complied.

Anaxos is great if you are looking for a relaxed family holiday. Teenagers may find it a bit boring as there are no "amusements". Blackpool by the Med it is not. Dress is definitely casual.

We used the local buses (a first for me abroad) they were all air conditioned for a comfortable ride and they were on time and cheap. We used them to get to Eftalou (the thermal baths) which is a definite must, our 2 kids (aged 7) loved it and even managed to get into the water at 45 degrees!. Molyvos is lovely although it is very steep, I don't recommend it if you have kids in push chairs. The harbour is small but nice to sit and drink coffee and watch the day go by.

We were told that mosquitoes would be a problem but with a spray repellent and burners in the apartment I was not bothered at all (normally I'm bitten to death on holidays).

If you like a simple holiday with friendly people (local and tourists) Anaxos should be tried.

Anaxos Is A Quiet Resort But Very Nice With Plenty

Anaxos is a quiet resort but very nice with plenty of restaurants to keep you busy for 2 weeks. Best ones we tried were PARADISE, SEASIDE and VASSILIS GRILL. Michelle's on the top road is traditional Greek atmosphere with 'Foti' the Bazooki player on a Tuesday (from about 10pm) You will be sure to have a laugh there. Lesvos Coffee Bar is another must - opposite 'Aris Supermarket'. Steve has a style all of his own and it's not really a coffee bar but a bar! Although he does sell coffee. He's an ageing hippy and plays a mix of sometimes strange music. The back garden is a gem. A mix of driftwood, pebbles and goat skulls! You MUST visit to see what I mean.

Don't come to Anaxos looking for a riotous time. Dress is casual. If you get fed up Petra is only a 10 minute bus or taxi ride away and Molyvos a little bit further. Buses are good value and are pretty good at keeping time. Molyvos is pretty steep and cobbled so don't wear high heels. It has a pretty harbour and a castle perched high up - get an early evening taxi to the top (castle closes at 7pm) and take a steady walk down. It would be too hot in the daytime.

Anaxos' beach is gritty and greyish. There are brollies and beds for hire. Cars can be hired from Billy's and Kostas in Anaxos. The roads are ok but the area is mountainous so watch out. The Greek drivers are crazy. Be sure to visit Eftalou for the thermal baths. These are situated on the pebble beach and are 45 degrees! They cure the mosquito bites! Mosquitoes are a real problem so use lots of protection. I suffered from some awful bites that got filled with puss.

If you like a simple holiday with sun, sand and sea then you won't go wrong with Anaxos.
