Shanklin, Villa Mentone Hotel

Went with Just go coaches and the hotel was the worst that i have ever stayed in the room was disgusting and the food only fair room for improvement The bed was terrible and the room was dirty and in need of a lot of repair and upgrading. I would not even give this hotel 1 star. My camara was stolen when i was there and Just go was just not interested and i was told that when i complained that it was not the persons i was talking to job description Beware and avoid at all cost

I have stayed Villa Mentone Hotel during 1st and 2nd May(Bank Holiday)with my partner. Hotel was full with a group came tour company. it seems the hotel is running currently by new management.

Hotel location is very good and view from conserverty and upstair bulcany is excellant. All the staff are well trained and very helpfull. We wanted a seaview room where we were living.

We wish the new owner Nathan every succes in his future. I would go again to stay there and I would recomend to others.

This hotel is excellent value for money staff go out of there way for you,The gardens need some tlc,The bedrooms do need updating but are clean and warm we stayed in room 24 with breath taking views from 22 April to 25 April and are planing to go back in June excellent value.

We Travelled with Leisure Time Tours for a cheap and cheerful break mid March this year.

I studied several reviews of the hotel before we departed and was a little concerned by what I read, and on arrival all my fears seemed to come to fruition.

The Exterior of the hotel appears run down and in desperate need of a coat of paint and a good brush up.

From outside the reception you can see into the dining room which looked reasonably good so maybe things were not as bad as I first thought. The reception area was dated but clean and we were greeted by smiling helpful staff. Checking in was quick and efficient, considering, the large number of waiting guests. Our room was number 23 and on the second floor. The hotel has no lift apart from a stair lift to the first floor. So be prepared for a bit of a trek up four flights of stairs and two more if your room is on the third.floor. The view from the front rooms is amazing. The hotel is situated at the top of the cliff on the far right of the beach., commanding a clear unobstructed view of the beach and far out into the English channel (if the sea mist will permit). The food served in the restaurant is basic but certainly edible. Breakfast is simple and the evening meal is satisfactory...expect no frills.

There is little more I can say except that I discovered that the new owners had only been in the hotel less than a week and were still in the process of putting things right.

I would like to wish the new owners every success and I am sure that your enthusiasm and willingness to please will bring out the full potential of the hotel.

If I could offer any advice it would be...Put some nozzles on your beer taps....and keep smiling.

the ceilings are all stained and crumbling in the hall way. My curtain rail i the bedroom was hanging by a nail. the bathroom suite was a plastic grey/blue very old fashioned. The entertainment was a TV for 2 nights and the meals are very small. I would never go here again. THis hotel needs a complete overall.

i think this is the worst and scruffiest hotel ive ever seen theres damp in the corridor my bathroom taps didnt even work the bed wasnt even changed and we never even had fresh towels

all the workers very rude people

the food omg was awful and the drinks are way to expensive the bar lady couldnt even pour a pint

only one good point is the sea views other than that i was very dissapointed in this Villa Mentone hotel

was speaking to a landlord of another hotel and she was saying they are very untidy people always getting complaints they also have no baby facilities there was a young couple with a baby and they have to feed their baby their food because they didnt have anything for kids on the menu also eating their food the baby was in the pram

they were quick enough taking tips off the grannies though i thought it was disgusting

Booked this hotel for our party of ten because our first choice tour operator could not accomodate our party, and as we had set our hearts on the i.o.w. we took what we could. some of us then read some of the reviews on the The Villa Mentone Hotel and so although open minded we did travel with a certain amount of concern but had determined to make the best of what we thought would be a bad situation. i have to tell you our concerns were totally unfounded, yes the hotel could certainly do with a makeover but our whole party were generally content with the standard of their rooms and we were all more than satisfied with the service that we recieved and the standard of the meals, if we were asked if we would go back to this hotel we all agree it would be a thumbs up.

FOOD AND SERVICE EXCELLENT.

All the staff were very friendly and bent over backwards to please!! The food was always on time, hot, homemade and delicious. (especially the soup!!). We (party of 7) arrived on 21-10-08... Tinsel and Turky Break....All the staff worked really hard to make our stay as enjoyable as possible...(and it was!!). We had a great time and the bar was really cheap too!!!! Excellent sea front position!!! A Beautiful Attractive Hotel!!! We would holiday here again!!!!Rooms, as said before, could do with a bit of a revamp however you must remember this is an old building, full of character! Give the new owners a bit more time and I am sure this hotel can only improve.However the only real complaint I had was the shower had little water pressure on the cold inlet (making the shower too hot!!)There was NO cupboard doors hanging off or curtains hanging down etc!!! Overall, realy nice place for a relaxing cheap break!!!

This Holiday was booked by someone else on my small Group of 4's behalf. I was, therefore, somewhat concerned that this Hotel had suffered some adverse reviews/comments in the past, when it was under previous Management.I/we were, therefore, delighted that many of past concerns raised were no longer apparent under the new Management and satisfactorily evidenced by our personal experiences over this long week-end.

The costs of the combined transport too and from the South Coast (Hastings through to Worthing this time) and the half board (bed, breakfast and evening meal) were not expensive, when compared with nearby Hotels that were offering deals without transportation; so it has to be fairly said that this was a great value for money break i.e. it is NOT a 5 star charging establishment and, as a consequence, one can't realistically expect 5 star service and associated amenities. However, what was provided was very acceptable.

All the above is somewhat praise indeed from myself, who has become rather a critical and complaining person in more recent years.
