I've been on two of Alan's holidays, one in Kent and one in Norfolk, and they were exactly what I wanted. Alan is so knowledgeable about birds and the best places to see them. Both weeks we had an end tally of well over 100 species. We also recorded wild plants and invertebrates. Everyone was very friendly and the days were relaxed and enjoyable and we saw some great wildlife and learned lots. The accommodation was very comfortable and Alan was attentive to what we wanted and very approachable. Best way to spend a week if you are interested in nature.

Alan is an extremely knowledgeable naturalist on a wide range of subjects, but he excels at ornithology. He does a lot of pre event research, so you can just turn up and he will have it all organised for you. For example, 'see the dead branch at the top of that tree? the nightjar uses that as a perch' You turn around a few minutes later and there is the nightjar. Of course, no sightings in the natural world are guaranteed (if you want guarantees, buy a DVD!), Alan will point out other things of interest as they are seen.

I have been on walks with Alan for many years, he has a very gentle way of teaching if that is what you wish. He is also happy to provide a guided walk if you don't want so much interaction.

This year, I went on a birding break organized by UK Wildlife Holidays. I had never been birding in Norfolk before but expected to see several exciting birds. They didn't disappoint. Although the weather was cold, as expected in January, he gave us a fantastic week with well over 100 bird, some lifers. The sites were varied in order to give us the maximum variety and the walks were at an easy pace. They even managed to entertain us in the evenings and everyone in the group enjoyed the week as well as each other's company. The accommadation was good as was the comradeship. I have already put my name down for future trips. Well done
