Kwan Thai, Ipswich

I eat at the Kwan Thai, quite a lot. I have always found it too be a brilliant restaurant serving authentic Thai food. The service is great and it is easy to relax and enjoy the meal, for the atmosphere suits all. I have to say the chicken sarah is my favourite starter, and any mild chicken dish is my favourite meal. I find that the prices are very reasonable. The staff are easy to talk to, you can easily ask about the food with out worry. All in all a great place to have a meal out

I booked the Kwan Thai restaurant on Sunday 28th June 2009 as a treat for my girlfriend and her daughter. The three of us arrived at the restaurant at 13:00hrs.The place was empty. That was the first worrying sign The service was superb, however the food was a bitter disappointment so much so that both the stater and main dish were sent back after tasting. The food was just so bland the sauces were like tomatoe ketchup and were glutinous no distinct spices and flavours, Mushroom hot and sour soup was like a broth of oxo cubes with chillie and corrianda, the vegatable spring rolls were like the ones you get from a supermarket not knowing what was inside it and stodgy. Chicken wrapped in spinace leaf came out like frozen chicken nuggets dusted over with seaweed. Main dish Beef and Spring onions was sweet and again bland. I personally have vistited thailand twice and spent a total of three months out there at the wap po temple.

We had drinks but after sending back both the starter and the main meal the Chef then came out of the kitchen and told us to get out of his restaurant we were still drinking our drinks, he shouted why you not like my food to which we replied that it just was not we expected from thai food. Remember there was a nine year old child with us told us he did not want our money. We paid for our drinks and offered to pay for our meal, have never had a problem with a restaurant before with the chef shouting and behaving poorly Cant fault the waitress or the service. Perhaps a bad day but certainly not a restaurant for me to recommend to anyone.

I love this place. Living locally this is my restaurant of choice. The sauces and dips are a particular favorite and the weeping tiger and butterfly king prawns are to die for. Good value good food.

I travel a lot, and the Kwan Thai restaurant in Ipswich really is the best Thai Restaurant I've come across so far.
