Swan Inn, Barnby

Awful place, we booked a table for 6 for 8.30 one couple were bit late but the girl behind bar was told at 8.20 we were there etc. she sat us down after hanging to ask at 8.50 took our orders, then about 10 mins lafter another woman came and said sorry we finish cooking at 8.30 can't serve you, absolutely appalling don't even bother a friend was there and she said shame they served us the food was rubbish!

Obviously the place has drastically gone downhill because you used to have to book up way in advance

Just been for a meal at this restaurant and it was awful. Let me tell you why. I visited this restaurant approx 10 years ago & it was always a lovely experience but tonight NO! what's happened?

The overall pub & restaurant is looking run down & rather old fashioned. Dried flowers in the toilets & shabby paint work. Once at our table we waited approx 5 mins before our starter turned up. We received no bread on our table like we should have & our wine glasses were not taken away even though we didnt require them. I ordered avocado & prawns and the avocados were hard & bitter. For the main my husband had turbot & it smelt off wih a instinctive taste.

The presentation is not up to date as you get a side dish with a little coleslaw, iceberg lettuce & quarter of tomato , boring.... It's all thrown on with no effort. The dessert was presented in a tall glass dish with a doily on the plate, nothing special just bulk standard like something you get out of a packet. The cheese board consists of cheese & crackers only - no chutney no grapes - dry & uninspiring. Considering the price it's disappointing, it's not value for money SO DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT A SPECIAL NIGHT OUT.

To all those people who have complained of poor service and that the food was off. All I can say is that you were either very unlucky or chose a busy weekend or your expectations are that of someone who dines in the Savoy and looks down on this fine eating resturant for ordinery people. For me I have been to the Barnby Swan on many occassions and can only praise the staff for their efficiency. I can honestly say that the food has always been of the highest standard as the owners have direct access to only the best fish available that is direct from the trawlers that come into our East Anlian Fish Markets. Ofcourse if you are eating anything other than fish then those that complain need to align their tastes to the fish on the menue. I think then you will be satisfied

The Swan Inn is a Pub that does grub, I’ve eaten here in the past and the unique draw was good a quality fish menu.

We were greeted at the bar and handed menus also spotting a large chalk board array of specials. Too much info but not a great choice. The waitress was inattentive throughout the meal and appeared untrained almost rude.

There were six in my party; I had the Skate wing, my wife son and father in law the cod, mother in law the place and son crab. The skate cod and plaice were best described as fish shop quality but large portions, the crab was terrible and all the accompanying portions of chips salads etc. of average quality the chips not even up to chip shop standard the table was greasy and dirty as was the cutlery and gasses.

Disappointing experience Overpriced pub grub. Wont be rushing back unless i hear of major changes.
