Bad Steaks

we have some friends over from Australia and decided to go for a meal at the Peacock Oakerthorpe, having heard it was very nice. How wrong we were.we ordered our meal of four steaks all we were told from Derbyshire, our steaks duly arrived, very nicely presented,I had my first taste of my steak and thought funny taste my second piece did not improve,as i had a T bone i tried a piece from the other side of the bone,it was inedible it smelt awful.trying to keep our guests happy and relaxed i got the waiters attention and quietly asked him to return the offending meal to the chef for him to see and smell, the waiter made quite a scene wanting to know what was wrong and why (he may have been hard of hearing?)on me virtually ordering him back to the kitchen he went. Now all the restaurant was aware of a problem.he came back a short while later and said the chef agreed it was wrong and that another steak was on the grill.Five or six minutes later my fresh steak arrived but by now the rest of the party had finished their meal that left me eating while all watched no further mention no visit from chef no visit from management a little sorry would have gone a long way.the australians were shocked and said it should never have happened and a good meal/event was ruined only bad memories for the Peacock

Very Disappointed

Just had lunch, 4th August 2013.We both had steak and was not given steak knives, when asked if we would like anything else I asked for butter, as I had jacket potato, which never arrived and my husband had the stilton sauce which had something very long and gunky in it. The waiter said it was probably some unmelted cheese but couldn't be sure. The food was nothing special and definitely not worth the price. The service leaves a lot to be desired either very slow or none existent.

Wheres The Rest?

Arrived at 1430 on a sunday, took an HOUR for our main (roast dinner and a salad) to be served, whilst tables around us (who arrived later) were served theirs. Waited 10 minutes for the accompanying vegetables before having to ASK for them

Come dessert, ordering a FIVE layer Carrot cake, it arrived and was 20 minutes later but only THREE layers with the bottom obviously having been broken off...when I enquired, I was told they would get me a fresh one...

10 minutes later (the husband had eaten his cheesecake)...they returned the original slice (which I'd cut into) with ONE additional layer put next to it...WHERE WAS THE OTHER LAYER??...3+1=4....not five...and you dont have icing on the bottom of a cake..so clearly there was still one missing...

WHAT WAS GOING ON?!

£33 for two drinks, two almost complete mains and nearly 2 puddings.

Poor food, bad service, disinterested staff.

Worst Sunday Roast Ever Had

Went for a Christmas meal with others, partner and I had roast beef meal with all of the trimmings. Meat was average, (sliced not carved) mash potatoes were instant and everything else from a packet. Waitress asked if all was ok and I said no - that's as far as it went. I would get far better at a Wetherspoons. It goes without saying that I would not dream of setting foot in the place again.

Disgusting - Never Again

We have often had some lovely meals at the Peacock in the past, so were keen to try it again under the new management - Big mistake. Initially we were quite impressed with the changes until we ordered our meals.

I wished to order the sea-bass, one of my favourites but noticed it came with a rosotto which I don't really like, so requested some dauphinoise potatoes, which were also included with my husbands meal so didn't think it would be a problem. After a while our waiter informed me the chef could not do this as he only had them available for other meals on the menu, so asked if I could have new potatoes instead - no was the reply, he would only do the meal exactly as on the menu. With that I decided to order the steak pie instead (about half the price of the sea-bass) After a wait of over an hour our meal finally arrived. My husband had ordered the lamb and was completely disgusted by the size and quality of his meal. There we three tiny pieces of lamb (around the size of a 50p piece) on top of what was supposed to be dauphinoise potatoes, which can only be described as a small spoonfull of a curdled looking slop that did not resemble dauphinoise potato in any way along with a tiny amount of vegetables and at £15 one of the worst meals we have ever been served anywhere ! My husband had to resort to sharing my pie. We did complain and the waitress we spoke to (and is the only reason we have given it a 1 star rating )was very apologetic and agreed not to charge us for the lamb. Our evening was completely ruined (a birthday meal) by all of this and would cetainly never return again !

Get a new chef !!

Not As Good As The Dog And Duck

We visited on a Thursday evening and found that although there were a few people drinking, not many were eating. The decor is similar to the sister pub in Old Clipstone and the menu is identical.

My friend & I both ordered the steak and ale pie with homemade chips, as it is a favourite of ours at the Dog and Duck. What a disappointment it was!

it arrived less than 5 minutes after ordering. My pie was crusty to one side of the wedge, as if it had been cut for hours. It was barely warm but it was obvious that it had been microwaved as the pastry, which is normally lovely, was soggy and floppy. We didn't get chips at all. Instead we had halves and wedges of cooked potato that had been briefly dipped in the fryer. They were horrid!

We should have complained but didn't - if they can't tell when bringing out such substandard meals that there is a problem, then complaining won't achieve anything. It wasn't even like they were busy. However, neither of us will be back. £9 for cold pie and leftover potatoes is not good value for money.

A case of more style than substance.

Sunday Lunch Review

Arrived at Peacock for Sunday lunch booking 3.00pm. All the starters were fine, but when it came to main courses, different story! The pie my partner got was hard and dry, I would have sent it back, but he didnt want to upset day by doing so. The steaks we ordered were supposed to be med rare, what a joke, no blood on show, they were more like well done, which made them dry and tasteless.Because a comment was made regarding the pie, the waitress, who was clearly not in good humour!never came back to see if everything was ok, or we would have told her. A lot of money for a poor meal. Eight lost customers!!! You need to review some of your staff.
