Great Appliances...until They Catch Fire!

I purchased this vacuum as a new appliance several years ago and I do understand that they do not last forever, however, the way that this appliance stopped working and the customer service that followed was a little concerning.

The general day to day use of this appliance is amazing, it is by far the best vacuum cleaner we have ever purchased for both use and its compact size also makes it east to store when not in use.

Cosmetically they're not too tough, every bump and scratch shows as the materials they use are very unforgiving, for the price they charge you think they would use tougher materials although I guess that would ultimately have a negative effect on the weight.

My main issue with this appliance is that one day, after being used for around five minutes it began to smoke and caught fire.

On closer inspection I discovered that the post filter was the cause of the fire so contacted Dyson, they informed me that this part was supposed to last the duration of the motors life so I would have to call their switchboard to purchase a replacement filter...I thought it a little odd having to pay out money for a part that should apparently never need replacing.

Their customer service department didn't seem too bothered by the fact that their appliance caught fire and in a letter that I think was supposed to reassure me they wrote "there are not many vacuum cleaners that occur with this particular fault". This statement along with their very kind offer to inspect and repair the fault at 'my' expense immediately put me off getting it fixed or purchasing another Dyson.

I love their appliances but feel that I can no longer trust them.

Reliable Product

My wife bought this vacuum cleaner over 2 years ago, and so far it's turning out to be the best vacuum I have come across. Love the fact that it's bagless so no nasty changing of bags when they are full. The filter is also easy to clean, and can be washed which cuts out spending on buying new bags. The turbo head on this vacuum is great, and it cleans well every time with no loss of suction. It is expensive, but we've had no mechanical problems and will recommend this product to everyone.

We've Had This Dyson Dc08 For About 4 Years And It

We've had this Dyson DC08 for about 4 years and it's brilliant.

It isn't too loud so you won't have to put your ear defender's on like you will with a few vacuum's i've had.

This vacuum can keep picking up dirt even when it's basicly blocked, so you'll never know when it's blocked because it will nearly always keep suction.

We've had it for 4 years but we have it no more, unfortuantly a few weeks ago the motor blew up, and we thought it would be easier just to buy a new vaccuum (which we did) because the motor was £40 and the new vacuum we have got was £70.

My Dyson Dc08 Is So Well Loved Here That We've Giv

My Dyson DC08 is so well loved here that we've given him a name, Sam. Sam is fantastic. Light weight and easy to lift with Dyson's fantastic handle designs in very handy (logical!) places, I find that taking Sam for a lap of the house is a pleasure. Not bulky at all, the hose fits around the main unit neatly and the well-placed top handle means that lifting it into a cupboard or taking it up stairs no longer leaves me off-balance with a sore arm.No bags to empty - a simple bucket style dust catcher easily pops open to empty and is just as easily closed again. Dyson's designs make me wonder why other vacuums use bags at all.I've owned this model for three and a half years now. I have not had a single complaint with this model or brand in that time, and even if I did I still have a year and a half left on my five year warranty. Above the power cord outlet, there is a service sticker with free-call phone numbers for Dyson customer service centres on three continents if you ever get stuck. The suction, accessories/tools, cord retraction, hose quality and performance, all wheels, all clips, all... well, EVERYTHING on this vacuum cleaner is still absolutely perfect after three and a half years of heavy use (used every second day to suck up tremendous amounts of cat hair). All hail the Dyson DC08! My little Sam puts all other vacuums to shame!

I understand the warranty on this model is a full five years for all the little wiggly things that may go wrong. Never in my life have I seen a vacuum cleaner last more than five years so hopefully you got a good five years out of your cleaner before it packed it in.

Stop Looking For A Good Cylinder Hoover To Buy - Y

Stop looking for a good cylinder hoover to buy - your search is over - buy this one!!! I'm so pleased with mine that I no longer dread the housework. The design of the DC08 is straightforward, basic, no frills but exactly what you need. It does what it says on the tin & does it very well! Suction is brill, ease of use fantastic. No bags to buy or wash, no nothing. And the best bit - wherever you get it from it comes with 5 years free servicing, parts and labour & call out. That means you can throw the box away & give them a call (and they come to you) & do it free of charge. I haven't had to call them out yet - I've only had the product a couple of months - but I've heard from friends that they are pretty good. After only owning the product a week my builders that we had in to remove a chimney breast informed me that they'd forgotten their hoover - could they use mine??!! Horrified - MY NEW DYSON?? I had to let them. Well, it passed the test - coped with rough handling from the builders & a hell of a lot of plaster dust & muck.

I could rave on about it for ever. Any reviews that you read that are negative are because the consumer is either blind, daft or clearly, well.....?
