I've had this car since I wa a teenager. My dad was the secod owner and he bought when it was 19 years old and had only 19,000 miles on it.
These are nice comfortable cars and well finished inide and out, with leather upholstery, full carpets.
I haven't had it on the road in years, but hope to do so soon. The photgraph for thee reviews is my car, taken at a family gathering at my place, about 18 years ago.

I Have Found An Austin A40 Devon Here In Las Vegas
I have found an Austin A40 Devon here in Las Vegas. All the parts are there; I'm excited about putting it on the road. It is a beauty, in its rough state!
I have listened to the comments about this wonderful type of car and would love to experience what some of you have experienced.

I Have Had Over 15 A40 Devons, And I've Found Them
I have had over 15 A40 Devons, and I've found them to be a very simple car to work on. I've changed the suspension in mine to the later A50 and A60 Cambridge type because 16-inch tyres are very costly in this country (New Zealand). The slightly wider and smaller tyres will provide better handling. Many suspension parts from the later Austins, like the Cambridge range and the later BMC cars are interchangeable. Not only that, but wheel cylinders from Ford Escorts, Starter motors from PA Vauxhalls, Pressure Plates from Morris Minor 1100's and Clutch Plates from certain Hillmans and Morris Oxfords are all the same as standard fitment to our Devons! Amazing? Not really. Just pure logic! The A40 Devon is a pretty incredible car when you think about it.

I Purchased My Devon In 1973. It Was In Very Good
I purchased my Devon in 1973. It was in very good condition with only 36,000 km on the odometer and all original. Only the paint had been redone once since new. The Devon was a real eye-catcher here in Ontario, Canada and was a hit wherever it was parked. I was fortunate to have found a Brit auto dealer whose parts counter person was extremely helpful in locating original parts when needed. I wish I would have kept the Devon, but "youth" had a different plan. The last I saw of my Devon, it had rusted apart in a field - a real shame!
I still have my 1950 Austin A40 Devon. I've had it since 1971 and while it is in fari shape the interior has deteriorated significantly in recent years. Must of the stitching has come apart. I last drove the car on a regular basis in in 1989. Sadly, although it is now stored inside it hasn't been started in a number of years. It needs a rebuilt brake master cylinder as well as some fuel system cleaning and repairs. I've just been too occupied with other projects and priorities to spend much attention on this car. I'm the tird owener; my dad was the second and I doubt I will ever part with it.

My Austin A40 Devon 1200cc 4 Door Classic Car Was
My Austin A40 Devon 1200cc 4 Door Classic Car was the product of salvaging three old cars my father had bought as spare-parts bombs. It was a labour of love to take the gearbox from the blue one, the motor and diff from the green one and fit them onto the black sedan. The original finish needed only to be buffed to a showroom shine and the old girl passed her roadworthy first try.
I was proud to drive her everywhere and to watch the people stop and stare as I drove past. Sure she was sluggish up steep hills and took an eternity to reach freeway speeds, but I happily paid that price to drive my classic.
Sadly she met her demise at the hands of a wayward truck as she was parked outside my parent's home - just four weeks after I had finally removed the other cars from my yard.
Do I miss her, of course! Would I buy another? No way..... I'd rather rebuild one from the neglected pieces in someone's back yard and do the whole thing over.
