Misleading Insurance Policies – Avoid This Company

I rented a car through EconomyCarRentals and purchased their reimbursement insurance, trusting that I would be covered in case of an accident. Unfortunately, their insurance is completely misleading and unreliable.

I was rear-ended by another driver and had to pay the repair costs upfront. I followed all instructions—submitting documents, photos, and reports as requested. However, instead of reimbursing me as promised, they informed me they were trying to recover the money from the other driver, who turned out to be uninsured. Their response? I should wait up to 3 YEARS for reimbursement while they chase the money.

This completely defeats the purpose of an insurance policy. I bought this coverage to protect myself, not to end up financing the whole situation and waiting years for a resolution. EconomyCarRentals’ customer service has been unhelpful and dismissive, offering no accountability or clear answers.

If you are considering renting through them, think twice. Their low prices and insurance policies might seem appealing, but when things go wrong, you are on your own. Choose a provider that actually honors its commitments and values its customers.

Extra Charges

we had a booking for 22:00. we arrived at 23:00 due to flight delay. The voucher said that late hours fee is included, but they charged us extra 40 euros(!!) for after hours and not for late pick up! That was with CARWIZ.When we complained they siad to claim the money from the site or the air-line. I don't see any contact way at the e-mail i recieved or else where..

The previous time we rented a car throught the site, the car was with Thrifty. We didn't arrive late, but the experience was fine!

Terrible Service

Hired a car to collect from kefalonia from economy car rental . Unfortunately we were delayed but due to the fact we had to circle in the aeroplane for 2 hours due to fuel accident on the runway, I could not let the rental company know of the delay. On arrival they told us they have given our car away as we were late

. We had booked a jeep due to the terrain to our villa. They said no other cars available. Asked if we could speak to a manager was told no. There was no contact number. They refused to give us deposit and said they would take the full value of the car as we were ‘no show’s’

.

We had to then try and find a car to hire in the middle of July after an already 3 hour delay.

I contacted them on their website and the response was t that they have a 24/7 helpline and we should have called that (I still cannot find a number and they refuse to give me one) and they said that I did not notify them even though we were stuck in the air.

Rude staff and useless

My Booking Said Nzd 1015 Was Payable At Your Partn

My booking said Nzd 1015 was payable at your partners desk.this amount included Nzd 149.70 excess protect.I was also advised that when I got to your partners Enterprise cars desk Gbp 488.28 would be payable (this corresponded with the Nzd1015 you had advised.) When I got to Enterprise carsI had to pay GBP 814.60 which included excess protect of Gbp 137.50. As well I had to pay a further Gbp 200 deposit. They couldn't give me an explanation on why I had to pay about double your quote. It seems your systems don't line up with those of Enterprise cars and that either your quote was totally misleading or Enterprise should never have charged me about double your quote.I think you are responsible for ensuring your quote is what I have to pay. Please refund me the overcharging, otherwise it is rip off not of my making

Not A Car Rental

They advertised as being located in FLL airport. They are 9 minutes away. A shuttle can get you there but it took about 2-3 hours wait time.

At the counter of a very sketchy office, the CSR tells you you cannot use your insurance and insist on paying for theirs. Additional fees then end up being more than the good deal you thought you got.

Refunds are not allowed on prepaid cars but because they "pride themselves on customer service" (inject hysterical laughter here), they can partially refund. They must however keep US $50.00 of your money because you were stupid and trusting enough to believe that they were a valid car rental company. The promised refund never materialized because you failed to mention to them (despite doing this on 4 separate occasions) "how you wish to proceed"

I believe they changed their names a couple of times because too much people caught wind of their sham. Why companies like this are allowed to function is beyond me. How many reports on fraud must be filed before victims are taken seriously?

Stay Away

Do not trust this website. It is a sham website set up in Europe with no contact phone or anything. Reserved a car to be rented in Kuala Lumpur airport was charged in advance. At the airport, the car rental company would not give me a car because for some reason they did not want to accept my drivers license. So I never rented a car. Immediately went to Hertz at the airport who accepted my drivers license and gave me a car. When I asked for economycarrentals.com for a refund for a cat that I never rented, they simply refused to refund saying that it was "my fault".Someone is sitting in Europe and pretending to be a company. I have reported them to my Bank, the U.S Commerce Department and U.S Treasure department. Stay away from them!

Warning Bad Adventure. Economy Car Rental Is Not Reliable

Warning BAD Adventure. Economy Car Rental is not reliable, but they keep upfront charge :-(

Economy Car Rentals Review of service on 6/14/2024. USA reservation for Mexico, Tulum

1. Turned away at airport and did not get car.

2. Had to go to other vendors at airport and pay on the spot rental elevated prices.

3. Economy Car Rental telephone operators tell they have no way to refund money taken several months ago by Economy Car Rental. Unfortunately this charge might become minor to how much loss of no car or upgraded charges of other rental company immediate sale or no car at all.

4. Long telephone wait time.

5. No such company found at Mexico, Tulum. Does this company actually have cars to rent or is it just a 3'rd party that has no responsibility several months after fee they charge prior to actual rental?

Rental of car on 6/14/2024.

Car was provided through Hertz at Mexico, Tulum Airport and was declined by Hertz at airport office. Hertz confirmation number provided was valid but Hertz told me and others from Economy Car Rental that they had no cars for us. Other people that rented from Hertz did have cars. NO upgrades offered and we had been turned away.

I am guessing that our rates had been lower that that of Hertz customers. This has never happened to me in 20 years on any continent.

You do not want to be placed in this situation on your trip. Pay the higher cost from companies having cars to rent.

Double Charged For Crossborder License

Economy Car Rentals has no idea what the local car rental provider is charging you! For a Cross Border license Green Cars (the local provider in SA) charged me a fee on my creditcard and in the final rental invoice. So I paid twice!

The "Costumer Service" of ECR kept asking questions but did not react! A costly car rent with this company certainly NOT economic.

Charge Booking Fee, Refuse Refund When Rental Company Fails

I booked a van at orlando airport with economybookings, the rental company was AZ Rentals. AZ Rentals operates illegally outside the airport authority and left us stranded at the airport. Economybookings then refused a refund claiming I had cancelled the booking and failed to pickup the rental. (probably lies told to them by AZ rentals) AZ rentals of course told me to just get a refund, after trying for hours to contact them. Thankfully after notifying the airport authority, they are doing what they can to shutdown AZ rentals. Still, economybookings has no excuse for working with companies operating illegally and still refusing a refund.

I Have Been Using The Service For 10 Years. I Ask

I have been using the service for 10 years. I ask you to withdraw the good reviews that I wrote about them. The service has definitely deteriorated. The last 2 bookings were a negative experience. Payment was taken twice: on the website and at the car dealership. The dealership gave me a different car than the one I had booked, in poor condition. Prepayment cannot be returned. Long correspondence with this company does not lead to results. It is clear that the company is in a sad state and will close soon. Unfortunately, you will have to give them up forever. I don't recommend it!

Amendments of collection time on an existing voucher.

1. Why does their existing voucher amendment procedure require their customers to reorder and face additional cost for the privilege of undertaking this simple online task?

2. Have a 2016 voucher with paid insurance support require to change collection time by three hours later on the same day in 2017 requiring me to financially disadvantaged with a NEW order amendment time?

Mick2E

Hi,whenever I have required further information or any queries after receiving the voucher from economy car rentals I have dealt directly with the car hire company. Recently we booked a car for 6 weeks in USA and were aware of the 30 day limit and the need to re-hire the car after 30 days. This was easily resolved with the car hire firm. When you request a change with Economy Car Rentals, they would have to re-book the car for you and this is likely to cause a change in price.

urbanrejc

Do we need to pay any excess when renting a car? Or do we pay just full price of the renting?

RGVT

They do have hidden cost even if not directly to them. Hidden means small print that may be anywhere. The amount can be significant and abolish competitiveness. Most irritating, they use contradicting language in different places and at the end will blame you for no reading properly and 'you signed, you agreed' (not verbatim). They will also do nothing to help you - you pay them when you take ththe contract, so by the time you need them, they are already fully paid and dealing with you and your difficulties is an expense. So you will speak to the useless client relation or tech support nonsense that is meant to tire you. Even if they say they will check and return to you, they will not.

How do I make a complaint to Economy Car Rental?

Peter5048

I made my complaint both by email and telephone and the lady that I spoke to was very helpful and obtain my deposit refund.

Redrobbo74

Can anyone help with details about the mandatory credit card charge? I have tried to contact the company on live chat but don't seem to be able to get an answer. It is a two-day hire in Australia.

JanMo

I have used economycarrentals numerous times in Australia. I've no complaints - felt the prices were good. I don't remember the credit card fee - but assume it's like so many businesses now - they're charging you their cost of accepting your credit card. It's probably 1-3%, which is what they pay the credit card company.

CrisFanelli

I live in Brazil and was looking for car rental companies in Las Vegas. I've just found Economy Car Rentals. It called my attention the fact their price is way lower than their competitors' and it seems they do not charge extra for insurance. They definitely offer great deals, but before making any reservation, I want to know if this company is reliable?

marko_2011

Never ever use economy car rentals or any this kind of "search engine" to book a car. First of all, they are not a rental company, they are a middle man, who always try to sell their "insurance" with the booking. The booking is then done/forwarded to another company, which of course try to sell their insurance for the car. If you have taken the economy rental car insurance and refer that to the actual rental company they just say that they have nothing to do with it and rightly so. Then if you have an accident, you have to pay the full price of the accident to the rental company and afterwards try to collect from economy car rentals, and let me tell you it is hopeless. So my suggestion is always deal directly with the car rental companies!
