Refund was never issued

HIDDEN FEES, EXTRA POLICY, EXTRA CHARGES Our experience was deeply disappointing. The company consistently failed to assist with refund requests, instead placing blame on customers for services that were never used. Despite our efforts to clarify, they withheld the refund unfairly. Additionally, we were treated poorly during pickup, and crucial insurance information was either unclear or not provided at all. The time when we got there, the company Astralis informed us that we have to pay extra almost $700 for the extra insurance coverage and some extra charges even though we had our own insurance policy. We had agreed to proceed with the company's policy and requirements. However, when we arrived at the counter, we were informed that the vehicle was no longer available. We were ready to pay the additional charges and had even provided our credit card, but the staff refused to process the booking because the car had already been given to someone else during the brief moment I requested to speak with my husband. There were no delays or issues from our side.

I first tried rentalcars.com but had a bad experience -- the car rental company offered me a car which was lower class than what I had booked. I tried to contact the rental company but did not succeed, so I ended up cancelling by booking. Then I tried discovercars.com (for renting a car in Sardinia) and (almost) everything worked as expected. As a nice perk, I got a better car than I expected. Only one minor complaint: the car rental company ignored the full-to-full fuel policy that I had agreed with DiscoverCars but I cannot really blame DiscoverCars for that.

My Terrible Experience with DiscoverCars

I had one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences with DiscoverCars, and I feel it’s important to share the full details so others don’t go through what I did. I booked a car through their website and paid €258 in full. The booking clearly included the name of the main driver, and we used a bank card that belongs to a joint bank account with the main driver – same account, just under a different name. The cardholder was physically present at the pickup location. I arrived on time, even 10 minutes early, and waited in line for an hour. While waiting, I watched other people getting assistance from staff, including someone who had booked cars for friends and was still helped. In my case, the staff member refused to help, didn’t even try to find a solution, and told me to call DiscoverCars myself. I tried to call their customer service three times on the same day, but each time I got an automated message saying they’ll respond in 48 hours – I needed help in that moment, not 2 days later. After all this, they claimed I was a “no-show” and only refunded €129 out of the €258. And every time I explained the situation to them, they sent me cold, copy-paste replies blaming me for “not complying with policy,” without taking responsibility for how poorly the situation was handled. To make things worse, I couldn’t help but feel that the treatment I received was discriminatory, especially when I showed my Israeli passport and ID and got a completely different attitude compared to others in line. I didn’t book this car just to lose money and argue with a faceless company. I booked it to travel and enjoy, and I ended up getting nothing but stress, disrespect, and financial loss. If you’re reading this: please be careful before booking through DiscoverCars. If anything goes wrong, there’s no real support. They’ll hide behind “policy” and leave you alone with the loss.

Hidden restrictions, no phone support

Restrictions from the car rental agency were hidden in the fine print and when I was unable to actually get the rental car I paid for Discover Cars would not refund my money. This "service" is a scam - they want your money, but won't follow through with anything resembling service.

Great prices and helpful with a catch!

Discover Cars as often the best prices for cars, booked several times with them and only once I had a problem, but you might want to pay attention as there is a way around it! The major problem with discover cars is that you only have 30 min to pick up your car from the time you have booked (this is true in Italy and Germany where I have been booking cars), if you arrive 30+ min late the car rental won't give you the car and you have to pay for an upgrade! Obviously if your airplane is delayed you can try to contact the car rental but they generally don't care. To solve the problem, I book the car at least 2 h after I am planning to take it, so that in case I am delayed the car is still there. When it happened to me, costumer service refunded me, but it was only 10% (the amount I had paid at booking), so other piece of advice book full price, at least you can get that back.

Bullying Customer Service - Do Not Use

Would not use or recommend this company to book a car from as I would like to share my personal experience in dealing with their customer service. Due to her handling of my case I will no longer be using Discovercars. It’s a very mean spirited representative who tries to bully customers. I won’t shame Discovercars by providing a photo of the correspondence. However, I will continue to use my free speech in sharing my personal review of my interactions with this company. Especially, the lack of service and trying to intimidate ones provided by Discovercar’s representative. Also, they are not sincere when they write to contact them back about reviews. Trust me, they don’t respond back to your personal email only to platforms like this one to make it look like customer service is being done. On a final note, I’m done with Discovercars and will book my future rentals with a company that value and appreciate my business.

No Help - Poor Customer Service

I’ve sent several emails and she has not replied back to any of them. Please note this as truth of poor customer service and not seeking to find a true solution.

An agent responded back that my case was close and of course the blame put on me. This is very poor service!

DiscoverCars customer service is useless. I went to manage my booking, and it directed me to the chat service with a bot. No visible number and had to google search even though they say it’s visible seen. Why then, when one calls, is there is no response? The bot replies are limited. I asked for an agent and stated my answer was not answered. The bot mentioned that “my human colleagues can respond to you in detail.” Instead of a response back, I received an email stating the booking was canceled.

Of course, DiscoverCars puts the blame on others with a usual reply: “Reservation cancellations are typically initiated by the rental supplier if specific requirements are not met, such as missing documentation, delayed pickups, or payment issues.”

In the end I was given a 10 dollar credit, meaning I have to use their services again. I do not find this a fair solution. My experience, through several emails asking for a fair resolution, has only been met with poor customer service.

I’m not satisfied. Do not use. They are not concerned about keeping a customer when an issue arise.

Has anyone found someone in customer support that is able to assist with an existing case? I am having an issue filing a claim and it appears no one at Discover cars is available to engage or escalate at this point. We had a not so great experience with the rental car vendor (America Cars in Mexico) and they will not release the final invoice for the damage of a popped tire. They do not deny that the damage occurred, or that we were covered by Discover Cars, and I do have the receipt and bank account statement. They just are not providing the final invoice. They are claiming that this is our own fault for booking with Discover Cars as opposed to purchasing insurance directly from them. Discover Cars will not refund without the final invoice. Has anyone encountered this before? Any tips to resolve? Seems odd that Discover Cars would partner with a vendor that will not cooperate in getting them what they need to provide a customer what they paid for (insurance that covers a flat).

You may have to accept credit points for another journey if you cancel. You always have to use a credit card when it comes to rental

Sometimes the price differential relates to whether the car can be picked up and dropped off rom the airport or not. Discovery do provide this from one of the car parks at Faro which to me is worth paying a bit extra over those that drive you off to some pick up point in Faro.
