We Had Made The Reservation And Main Course Select
We had made the reservation and main course selection well in advance of our visit to Staithe Restaurant, Waveney House Hotel in Beccles. There was only one waitress on duty all night (not her fault), so we arrived at 7.30pm and left at 10.30pm. The smoked salmon starter was a revelation - it was a whole piece of salmon and looked the same as smoked mackerel, but it tasted very dry, even with the salsa accompaniment. The Beef Wellington should be avoided at all costs (first time I have seen it cooked with a SHORTCRUST pastry) and overcooked, as should the roast potatoes, which were deep fried in oil!? There was just no excuse, as we were the only people dining (perhaps we should have taken this as an omen?). By the way there is no restaurant manager, so if you do complain, don't expect a constructive response.
