Absolutely Appalling Experience

Absolutely appalling experience. I sent my phone in, in perfect condition, only for O2 Recycle to tell me that the screen is cracked and sent me a photo of it. They're now claiming that it wasn't them and their 'T&Cs' protect them, meaning the blame has been put back on me as the customer (for not taking a photo of my phone before I sent it - where was the advice on doing that in the first place O2?) and I lose out on the money they quoted me for the phone. Not only that but I requested for it to be sent back to me 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't arrived. So not only have O2 damaged my phone, they have now likely lost it too. I have complained to O2 Recycle who have fobbed me off with terrible excuses and I have also complained to the official O2 complaints department who have just ignored me. I have been a loyal customer of O2 for almost 2 decades and I cannot believe how I've been treated. Is someone going to respond to me now that I'm sharing my review??

Easy Service

Very easy to recycle my phone, sent it off packaged securely. I took photos and videos of my device before I sent it, but it turns out I didn't have to. I got a response when they received it that they will be paying me in 5 working days. I received my money in my bank account in 3 days. Didn't have any problems whatsoever. Very happy and such an easy service to use! Thank you!

I Sent In My Galaxy S11 As Part Of The Upgrade Pac

I sent in my Galaxy s11 as part of the upgrade package being offered by O2 through which I was offered an additional £250 on top of the base value. The phone was in perfect condition when I sent it. I left on my protective case (which was damaged) to protect it in the post. The phone itself was not damaged and worked perfectly having been received only 10 months previously as a replacement for a faulty phone.

The first email from them stated the phone was damaged and detailed the damage to the external protective case and offering a quarter of the value originally given. I complained stating that the phone was not damaged the external case was. Next I get a message saying oh well even if it isn't the sim card tray is not the original sim card tray. It absolutely was when I sent it in. Clearly they had removed the SIM car and not bothered putting back the correct SIM tray.

They said the photos I took did now cover the SIM tray so did not prove the original SIM car tray was in. They sent the phone back with a SIM tray a completely different colour to the phone!!! Like I would not have noticed that!!

Use the service at your own risk.

Payment On The Full Offer

I have used O2 Recycle many times and I have always received the full amount offered, promptly within a couple of days of returning my phones and I would have no hesitation in recommending O2 to friends or family. This time during COVID19 did take longer for the payment, but under the circumstances the payment delay of less than a week was understandable.

Slow And Not Valie For Money

I have returned my phone 2 weeks ago and I have not yet received the money. In addition, I could sell it to a much a much higher price on ebay from the price they got it (even with the +£100 that were coming from my deal). I regretted giving it for recycle.

Q&A

Connor1263

Am I guaranteed cash for my iPhone 5c even if it only charges with one charger?

AndrewWilkins

Hello,

I believe that the condition of your old mobile 'phone is irrelevant so far as receiving cash for it on recycling is concerned. Hope this helps!

koppercraze

On Tuesday I bought a new tablet in the O2 shop in Edgware. I gave my old tablet into the shop to be recycled. The sales rep told me that I would receive a text confirming offer and if okay, then the money would be deposited into my account. I was also assured that I would have the money by Friday or Monday. It is now 5 days later and I haven't even received a message saying it's been received. I went into the shop and they seemed clueless as to how to resolve the problem. I am concerned I may not ever get my money. Any suggestions?

dezza

Did you get a receipt with an order number on it from the store?

You should try calling O2 Recycle, they should be the ones dealing with it.

It could be a case that the store haven't posted your tablet to the recycling centre, it took them several days to post mine.

So myself and a friend both decided to use O2 recycle.

Her phone was valued at £150; my phones at a combo of £320.

Both were packaged according to instructions, and sent via Royal Mail tracked system.

1 month later, two separate postings failed to arrive in O2's Falkirk centre.

O2 won't accept responsibility. Royal Mail confirmed it has lost both tracked parcels and sends a compensation cheque for £50 both posting failures. So someone in Royal Mail is £470 richer in phones and Royal Mail only had to fork out £100.

As a consumer, we are told that as far as it can go. Interestingly, the Post Office said no additional insurance or service upgrade was necessary at the time of posting.

Is this commonplace? Has anyone else suffered? Why isn't this risk made clear by O2?

To lose two O2 recycle packages from the same Post Office seems suspect to us.

Advice anyone?

Thank you.

goregan

Thank you for your feedback. Lesson learned - don't use O2's preprinted mailing labels, and ensure it is sent recorded / signed for delivery.

O2 takes no responsibility until the phone(s) is delivered to them. That they offer a free mailing service (under an agreement between it and Royal Mail), is meaningless. Royal Mail only provide £50 compensation on this standard tracking service and it cannot be upgraded to a special delivery service (or so the Post Office told us). It is up to the sender to ignore the free service and package using own labels / Special Delivery.

I expect we're not the first to suffer "lost" phones, the police were happy to take a statement, the IMEI numbers and will investigate if there are further reports of loss from this particular post office.

I'm planning on upgrading to iPhone 6 plus on refresh, £48 month, but I know there is a 6-7 week wait for it to arrive, I'm thinking of using O2 recycle to get rid of my iPhone 5 32gb and getting the value credited to my O2 account which at the moment is £168. My question is how would this credit work on my account i.e. would £7 a month be taken off my account over the 24 months new contract or would the full £168 be taken off price of phone or the tariff straight away?

Pagan8

When I recycled my phone the amount was credited to my bank account it didn't go on my O2 account
