Canon Powershot A95 I Know This Camera Is No

Canon Powershot A95

I know this camera is no longer available, but I got mine very shortly after Canon introduced it at a cost of about $500 Canadian. I've had it for about 5 or 6 years, I think. I would totally buy another one to use as my second camera (I now have a very nice DSLR). It took excellent pictures, was comfortable and solid in my hand, was made of metal, not plastic, was easy to use and never failed me... even after dropping it on concrete and getting duct-taped back together (although I would not recommend doing this... they are NOT supposed to be shock-proof). After having taken a gazillion pictures (yes, a slight exaggeration, but I did take at least 10 photos a day) with it, taking it everywhere with me, it has only recently stopped functioning properly. It now fires when it wants to, not necessarily when I want it to, but I have definitely got my money's worth out of it. I completely wore it out. Because of my good experience with that camera, I later purchased an Canon S5IS and a Canon 7D, but I would still buy another A95 for a spare, if I needed one.

The Canon Powershot A95 Digital Camera Was A Disap

The Canon PowerShot A95 digital camera was a disappointment. I felt that the images where hazy compared to my two Nikon cameras. The four AA batteries made the camera heavier than most others.

I ended up giving this one to my mother who didn't have a digital camera. She loves it. For myself it was a step down, but for any first timers this is a good camera. That said. I would look to a Nikon in the same price range first.

I Purchased The Canon Powershot A95 Digital Camera

I purchased the Canon PowerShot A95 digital camera a month ago for the purpose of taking photos while on a mission trip to Brazil. After taking photos for a couple days, the camera stopped operating. According to Canon Warranty Dept, the camera is unrepairable and not warranted due to moisture damage. The camera was NEVER immersed or in any way came in contact with any liquid. However, due to HUMIDITY, the camera is not repairable and is not warranted. ACTUALLY told by Cust Support that condensation may occur when moving from outside to an inside air conditioned environment, and that this VOIDS the warranty. I was not aware that my $300 purchase was for a disposable camera. In my opinion, the construction is poor if you cannot expect to take photos on a humid day. If you purchase this camera, avoid environments where you may encounter humidity, i.e. Brazil, Florida, anywhere in the South, etc. By the way, the other 14 people on the mission trip used their digital cameras with no problems.

I just had a similar experience but with an Olympus C-725. Its extremely irritating that manufacturers really do treat these gadgets as expensive disposable cameras. By putting numbers like 90% max humidity in the fine print they can legally get away with it! Surely some camera maker has better construction/integrity...but who?

Canon Powershot A95: In The Beginning I Wanted A D

Canon PowerShot A95: In the beginning I wanted a digital camera capable of movie clips and around a 5 megapixel output. I narrowed it down to this camera and another from Sonys range of cybershot cameras. After much advice from many stores I was driven away from the sony but only due to their lack of experience in cameras. The camera is great to use and has many excellent features, therefore making this a very versatile camera. My favourite features are the flip out screen and the excellent macro mode for close- ups of a superior quality.
